The Cyber Defense Division protects computers, networks, and applications from cyber attacks through hardening and incident response.
The Cyber Defense Division represents UVA in the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, where it is one of the most successful teams in CCDC history. Its accolades include:
In the 2025 season, UVA placed second at the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, which was held virtually from April 25-27, 2025.
In addition to CCDC, the Cyber Defense Division sends teams to various blue-team competitions around the country.

Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part or an agency of the University of Virginia. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization's contracts, acts or omissions.
